No Computer, No Problem: Ghanaian Teacher Uses a Chalkboard for his Computer Class

The lack of technology Ghanaian teacher, Richard Appiah Akoto, has to teach his students hasn’t stopped him from teaching them how a computer works. Betenese M/A Junior High School in Sekyedumase, he has been without a computer since 2011. Richard has shown his students the basics on how to use a desktop by using a CHALKBOARD! He uses multi colored chalk to demonstrate the different icons and buttons you would see if you were behind a computer screen.

After posting an image of him teaching on Facebook, Richard went viral. Hundreds of people shared the post, and it caught the attention of Microsoft Africa Entrepreneur, Rebecca Enonchong.

Going viral gave Richard the chance to go to the Educator Exchange in Singapore to see what it was like to teach with real technology. Once returning back to Ghana his students and school had received many donations of books, laptops, and other materials needed! Who knew that this one post on social media could give these students the opportunities of a lifetime!

How Cool!!
