A Quick Reminder on Climate Change

Climate change has been an ongoing issue for years without the help of humanity. Although, ecosystems around the world are being impacted now by the effects. In the past 5,000 years, the global temperature has risen four to seven degrees celsius. The rising temperatures will not stop there. It is estimated there will be warming over three degrees celsius. This will cause detrimental effects to society. Food and water shortages, decreased global stability, human extinction, and civilization collapse are all possible outcomes of climate change we could experience if change is not made.

Researchers and experts have seen the effects of climate change first hand. Sea levels rising, glaciers melting, carbon dioxide levels rising, and snow melting earlier are few of the issues we see today that will only get worse if we do not do something. Drought is becoming a more common issue due to humans using more water especially in agriculture. Humans are using too many of our resources too fast which puts human health at risk. Public health groups can work with communities to inform communities and make change.

Change

Things you can do to help climate change include:

  • Saving energy- using a programmable thermostat, unplugging electronics when they are not being used, washing clothes with cold water, etc.

  • Climate-Friendly Diet- eating less or no meat, grow your own food, do not waste food

  • Commuting- carpool, ride your bike, take public transportation

  • Get politically active- vote for leaders who take climate change seriously

  • Have a voice- talk about issues with peers, converse ways to stop climate change

We can't give up!
