CREATED BY TEENS FOR TEENS
Hear it from the creator
As a sixteen year old girl noticing the dangers of falsity in Social Media, I wanted to retaliate in some way. The more I watched my generation suffocate on fake news, the more I urged for a difference to be made. I personally felt consumed by misinformation on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat. As quarantine continued to prolong, this confinement left me with time to notice the issue surrounding teens accessing reliable information. I found myself rejecting the group thought enforced in Social media, yet I felt lost on where to begin my conquest for knowledge. All I really knew was that I was not going to start watching the news everyday. In all honesty, I don't think it surprises anyone that young people don't want to tune into CNN or Fox News. Conversely, I don't think it surprises anyone that most adults don't want to tune into TikTok for information on contemporary issues. With two completely different groups of people, engaging with two completely different platforms for information, no wonder a social and political gap persists. It's important to note that misinformation doesn't just target teenagers though; adults are just as vulnerable to disinformation. It's clear that both generations are experiencing this distrust between each other when the real enemy is the hidden fallacy in resources like Social Media. It goes without saying, bias and deception attack everything and everyone thus creating a world of immense political and social rife. Being teenagers ourselves, my friends and I believe we can help spread the importance of an informative rebellion; we want to take back the power of knowledge and eradicate the compliance to falsehood. This website is tailored for teens, but the message is versatile. Most of all, if you don't enjoy this website or aren't really interested in using it, that is completely fine. All I hope, is that the concept conveyed is applied when you find yourself absorbing media. Let's stop the normalization of incorrect "facts" and misleading bias! The further this continues, the further our world is numbed to inaccuracy. We can't forget how dangerous this is to us as a society. The Dinner Table Talk wishes to help teens by providing an easy and engaging format for consuming modern issues (factual of course)!
With high hopes,
